As per the new policies, Google play store will have betting or gambling app on the platform for more than 15 countries, including the US. That means, the respective gambling and betting android apps will deal in real money.
Is it illegal to have betting or gambling app on the mobile app platform?
Currently, users only from the UK, Brazil, France, and Ireland are allowed to access the gambling mobile application. The announcement of adding further 15 countries to the “real money gambling apps” came on 28th Jan. The gambling apps include lotteries, fantasy sports, casinos, and betting games.
The new policy will be implemented from 1st March 2021.

- New Zealand
- Norway

- Spain
- Sweden
- United States of America
Besides, each country has its legal policies and limitations towards the use of such services. For instance, there are no such gambling law restrictions in the UK. Whereas, in the US, they have state-to-state rules and regulations. Hence, the respective country has to attend to the local authorities before commencing the google play store services.
Google believes that the new change in the policy will immensely support the developers globally.
Google stated;
“We’re updating our Real-Money Gambling, Games, and Contests policy so more developers around the world can build sustainable businesses, and in a way that helps keep consumers safe.”
Has it become easier to launch your mobile app on the play store?
Absolutely not! The change in policy does not give you the keys to Google play store; there are no amendments to the application process. Each developer is required to go through the registration process to license. In addition, the gambling applications will be rated as “Adult only” and must be avoided by the under-age users. Furthermore, these mobile apps would be available for free-to-download in the app store and are excluded from the Google Play In-house purchase terms.
